I think probably the whole alphabet has already been done by now. http://www.sporcle.com/games/Hako/World_Metros_beginning_with_L

I'm aware that all three of today's have been done by other people, but I'm the "official" source of these quizzes in the sense that only mine will be published, so I need to put them out anyway.

@HalfWelsh - it's the metropolitan area so once you include places like Castleford, Garforth etc then you probably have got an urban area with that many people.

Castleford really isn't in Leeds and I think it even has a Wakefield postcode and besides I really don't want people thinking that I might live in Castleford!!

According to the source, Ludhiana (population 1,820,000) should be included here. Also, the source doesn't list Łódź for some reason; with a metro population of 1,428,600 according to Wikipedia it probably deserves to be a bonus at least.

Scary really, not so long ago London, Paris and Constantinople were the only cities in Europe with 1 million people. Now Leeds has over twice that and Liverpool doesn't make this list with one and one third times as many. Also in Polish the 'Ł' in Łodz is almost entirely a different letter and has no relation to the pronunciation of 'L' (the city is 'woodge'). Maybe as a bonus but nothing more.

No idea how they came to that figure for Leeds - even if you attribute the whole W. Yorkshire urban area including Bradford, Huddersfield etc. (which are entirely separate towns and in no way part of Leeds) it only gets to 1.5m

@Uhlan: I realize that Ł is different from L in Polish, but since Sporcle is in English and it seems unlikely that we'll have an "'Ł' World Metros" quiz, this quiz seems to be the right place for it. It's the same reason that Istanbul would show up on an "'I' World Metros" quiz, even though it's spelled İstanbul in Turkish, where İ is different from I.

The Leeds metro includes pretty much ALL of West Yorkshire so Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Wakefield, Batley, all those kinds of places, plus Bradford and around. Specifically I'm from Harrogate - wonder if that counts as Leeds metro? Only 7 miles away, but a different county (North Yorkshire). Still, it's closer than Huddersfield lol!

The figure for Leeds is quite ridiculous. It is exagerated by at least 100% and probably 200%. It would be interesting to here the views of residents of other countries as to the accuracy of their cities' figures. The figure for London is more realistic as there are plenty of satellite towns outside the boundary of Greater London which would fit the criteria.

I agree with the above poster. New York City is the most populous U.S. city, and there are only 8 million (approximately) there.
