| There is, unfortunately, no definitive answer to what constitutes the Northeast. Generally, it is accepted that the term refers to the New England and the Mid-Atlantic States; the problem is that no one can agree what states are the mid-Atlantic ones. I have used geography books that have not only listed Maryland and Delaware, but even Virginia as mid-Atlantic; others say only NJ, PA, and NY, or NY, NJ, PA, DE, and MD. It often depends on whether the text's author is referring to culture, economy, or geographical features, and as these things are often a mix( Maryland being a good example), the decision can seem rather arbitrary. One can argue a point of view, but there is no clear-cut answer. |
