Without a thorough knowledge of Chinese geography, you are severely handicapped in these population city quizzes.

Ah, metro areas. I thought I remembered Columbus being the largest city in Ohio, was shocked to see it was just a bonus, but glad I tried other Ohio cities anyway. Still only managed seven, and I was an East Asian Studies major, so I have no excuse for missing all of China.

I definitely think if "Cologne", which natives spell "Köln", is accepted, then "Calcutta" ("Kolkata") ought to be too.

Perhaps add Canton/Guangzhou as bonus answer (it has 10 million inhabitants in the metro area).

Changzhou, China: 3,570,000 metro pop. Conakry, Guinea: 1,931,184 census pop. anytime the word "metro" is used on these things its different, because cologne is estimated at 11,297,000 metro by some definitions.

@mellybmel, I agree, Kolkata is the correct name and the one the local people have been using for centuries. Calcutta is simply incorrect and should not be allowed, even as a bonus.

If you don't allow Calcutta -- the common English name for Kolkata -- then by that logic you shouldn't allow Cologne (the common English name for Koln), Copenhagen (the common English name for København), Cebu (Sugbo) or, for that matter, Colombo (கொழும்பு). This quiz is in English, after all...

I always seem to overlook some obvious ones with these quizzes. With 'C' it's Chennai, Cincinnati, Casablanca and Cebu.
