I feel like I should give credit to this quiz: http://www.sporcle.com/games/alphabetical5cities_us.php for originally inspiring this idea and demonstrating the layout that I ended up using. Have fun playing, and note that this data will differ from the main site's A-Z World Metros and my own 'X' World Metros quizzes since it uses a different source.

^ it´s listed under "Ruhr". Which is more appropriate since we always refer to the Ruhrgebiet in Germany. Essen is just one big city in there, not even the biggest - it gets beaten by Dortmund for a few thousand people.

Thank you for using citypopulation and not citymayors for your source. Makes the quiz that much better.

Dunno where it is according to your source but according to Wikipedia, the Edinburgh urban area has a population of 1,160,000 making it bigger than Edmonton...

Good quiz. Only correction I'd suggest is to accept "Suzhou" for "Xuzhou", since the former is the most commonly accepted English spelling. Of course, starting it with an S would probably disqualify it from the quiz!

arpw - Edinburgh isn't listed on the source given which would explain why it is missing (if it should be there at all, though I was suprised it didn't feature)

Please accept both "Essen" and "Dortmund" for "Ruhr." These are used quite interchangeably in quizzes of world metros, as there is no single consistent city used to represent that area.

@Erxxxleben: "Ekaterinburg" is an alternate transliteration of "Yekaterinburg". (The Cyrillic letter "e" in Russian corresponds roughly to "ye" in English.)

I wondered why Edirne, Turkey wasn't on here until I saw its population stats- only 128,000. Never mind.

Great quiz! Like everyone else, I missed some painfully obvious ones. It looks like China has a monopoly on the X's!

I tried Esfahan for the E, thinking it odd not to be included, and later find out it is down as Isfahan in the I category. Slightly frustrating, feel that it should be accepted with the alternative spelling.

I went and added the alternate answers people requested, so here's the comment letting everyone know. (Ouagadougou has long since been fixed as well, in case somebody didn't realize).

Not bad, but I question some of the figures. I highly doubt Frankfurt is under 2 million. In fact, Wikipedia states its metro pop at 5.8 million. Perhaps the urban area could have only 1.9 million, but the numbers would be inconsistent as it appears to use CSA numbers for American cities (LA at 18m).

Good quiz, but I feel 15 minutes is a little short. Nearly everything I entered came up, and I still only got about 3/4 of the answers in the allotted time. I think 20 minutes would be a good time for this one.

@colehauns -- you're right; Ankara only works if you also put in "Turkey," which should be overkill! Please fix this otherwise fantastic quiz.
