Also, I'm going to have to disagree with your assessment of Avatar. I thought it was much more deserving of the Oscar than Hurt Locker. Was the story original? No, but so what? Very few stories are original in movies. There are, according to Joseph Campbell, a very limited number of stories, and what is important is how they are told. Cameron created a whole world and vastly expanded the parameters of what can be done on film. Hurt Locker didn't do anything that hadn't been done in a hundred previous war movies. Fifty years from now, people will shake their head at which of these films won, in the same way we now can't believe Rocky beat Taxi Driver or How Green Was My Valley beat Citizen Kane. |
