What about fruits, vegetables, and meat?? Are these categories or individual items? I looked at the survey after the quiz, and it doesn't make sense. Maybe each fruit/vegetable/meat was listed separately or something. Maybe the survey answers have been skewed to make a point about our poor diet and health risks. Grocery stores certainly sell more fruits, vegetables, and meats than wine or cigarettes. Think about the size of each grocery department. Watch people loading their carts. Look at grocery carts leaving the store. All surveys are not always what they seem.

Disliked the idea overall because I knew it wasn't going to include stuff I usually buy, so therefore it was way to hard... (I don't drink or smoke so I didn't even think about those...)

i think the main thing is that its based on sales($), not number of sales. if u think about it a pack of cigs is nearly ten times the price of a bag of apples or something.

again, US centric. Can't buy beer or wine in grocery stores where I live. It should say 'Ten Most Bought in US stores" cause I bet the answer'd be different in Canada.

mccabebabe-- not US centric. There are many places in the USA where you cannot buy beer or wine at the grocery.

Well I dunno about you but I spend all my money on wine and cigarettes so I'd say it was a pretty good representation (for me anyway)!

frozen meal(s) should count for frozen dinner. They could be eaten for lunch or a snack

Allow "soft drinks" for carbonated beverages and "entrees" for frozen dinners. I don't get the beer thing since many states do not allow grocery stores to sell beer. I don't know the number, but it is hard to believe that sales in the states that allow it would be enough.

@chocolatl: but it is based on a US survey, so it's very specifically about US stats... like mccabebabe said, a title like "Ten most bought grocery items in US" would be clearer.

Wow. I guess I'm not a normal American. Eggs, veggies, pasta, fruit, juice, cheese, chicken, bread, potatoes and crackers would have made my list. Of course, I can't buy beer in my grocery store. If I could I'm sure that would have bumped off one of those.

You can't buy wine, cigarettes or beer in a Pennsylvania grocery store. And we wonder why Americans are becoming obese.

Almost no food on this list....that being the case, that non-foods are included, how is it possible for toilet paper not to be, forgive me, #1? Or at least on the list.
