Langley was, for most of her career, designated CV-1. I realize that by World War II she was re-designated AV-3 (and was no means a fleet carrier), but she does fit the criteria of "CV designation" and "commissioned before VJ Day". In short, her inclusion was somewhat dicey, but I didn't really want to come up with an exception to my criteria just to omit her.
Hosho, Argus, Hermes, and Eagle are listed as light carriers at HGAU; I didn't attempt to make the distinction between fleet and light carriers myself, since I wanted it to be clear which ships were included. You are of course entitled to disagree with that designation, but omitting them is correct by the detailed prompt for the quiz. |
