I tried a lot of different things for Austria-Hungary. It would really help if you accepted Austro-Hungaria, Austro-Hungarian Empire, etc. Other than that, cool quiz, I had to look some of these (like Hejaz and Nejd)

I've changed it to accept Austro-Hungaria, as well as some other ones (like British Empire)

Ottoman Empire should be acceptable for Turkey. Nitpicking aside, I loved the quiz!

Rumania was also called the "kingdom of Romania" and so it would be nice if Romania was accepted as well as Rumania. Great quiz though, I learned a lot from it!

I've made both of those changes - hopefully those should be all the alternate answerd done.

Am I correct to think that in 1914 the name "Turkey" was not really used, while Ottoman Empire was? After I typed in Ottoman Empire, I saw Turkey pop up. This led me to believe that current names were acceptable, so I was flabbergasted when I tried to type in Thailand later on before I realized I need to put in Siam. Just a minor inconsistency in an otherwise great quiz.

Yeah, sorry about that. You actually commented as I was changing all of the shown answers to the official (period) names. Thanks for the feedback!

Great quiz. Don't know whether this is exceptionally sloppy of me, but I tried Austro-Hungarian Empire, which wasn't accepted (I got it with something else in the end). Great quiz!

Fun quiz. I'm curious as to why you accepted "Turkey" for the Ottoman Empire, but not "Iran" for Persia or "Thailand" for Siam.

@mcbain. The ottoman empire was often referred to as "Turkey" at the time. Persia and Siam were just Persia and Siam.

Wikipedia, which is the source you use, has the Kigndom of Hejaz not becoming independent of the Ottoman Empire until 1916.

Tibet was an independent nation starting in either 1912 or 1913. All of the Chinese troops were out of the country by 1913 and the Dalai Lama had returned as the head of state. Mongolia also declared it's independence from the Qing in 1911, though they probably would not be considered sovereign until the Soviets kicked the Chinese out in the early 1920s.
