| @BamaRainbow In the broadest sense Belfast IS a world capital, far more so than Regina, Atlanta, Veracruz, Munich or Calcutta. Saskatchewan, Georgia, Veracruz, Bavaria and West Bengal are, as you point out, various states or provinces. Northern Ireland is not. It is a constituent country of the United Kingdom, in the same way that Aruba is for the Netherlands, or Greenland and the Faroe Islands are for Denmark. If you had said that Belfast wasn't a world capital, just as Oranjestad or Nuuk aren't world capitals, you would be closer to the mark. It would have been better if you hadn't added "in the broadest sense" to your reply. There is a distinction between states, provinces, constituent countries etc. They are not synonymous with each other. |
