| When you say "common nicknames", I would agree with A's, Bravos, Bosox, M's, O's, Fish, Halos, Nats, Redbirds, Tribe, Stros, Phils, Jays and Pale Hose. Most team nicknames originated long ago by sportswriters and newspapers who needed a name that fit well in a small column in a newspaper. Nobody refers to the Yankees as the Pinstripes. They WEAR pinstripes. I live in California, and nobody refers to SF as the Jints, or to SD as the Fathers (maybe the Pods). Arizona's most common nickname is the Dbacks (again, small newspaper columns). The Mets original name was the Metropolitans, but that is never used. I've never heard Baby Bears used, but I have heard Cubbies. The Reds were once the Redlegs and the Red Stockings. The Pirates are more commonly referred to as the Bucs. Who calls Milwaukee the Beer Makers? Twinkies is more of a term used to belittle the Twins (as with Cubbies). Again, you seem to use a few plays on words for the team nicknames, and those are not COMMON nicknames. For true baseball fans, this quiz was much too easy. Also, take some time off the clock. All in all, not a bad effort for your first Sporcle quiz. Good job. |
