| In the article, on of the criteria it mentions is "not based on previous characters" and since, with the exception of Jack and Rose, most of the characters were based on the personalities of real people, I assume that's why it's not on the list. As for The Sting, it was inspired by The Big Con but when the Oscars came around, it was nominated for Best Original Screenplay, not Adapted. So I think whoever wrote this list took into account the difference between movies with original stories that otherwise stuck to true events (like Titanic or Forrest Gump for that matter) and movies that were loosely inspired by them (like The Sting).
