Goldwater, McCain, Hart, Biden, Lieberman, Quayle, Muskie, Kennedy, Tsongas, Kerry, Thurmond, McGovern, and Gore were all major presidential or vice-presidential nominees at one point or another. Stevens was the longest serving Republican senator in history, and just died. Thurmond held that title before him. Byrd was the longest serving member of Congress of all time till his death. |
