| phi is a really cool number. its EVERYWHERE. if you divide the number of female bees by the number of male bees in any beehive, you'll always get the same answer: phi. the distance from your head to your feet, divided by the distance from your belly button to your feet is also phi, as is the distance from your shoulder to your fingertips divided by the distance from your elbow to your fingertips. phi shows up in tons of architecture, including the pyramids at giza, the parthenon in athens, and also in compositions by mozart, beethoven, debussy, and other composers, and was used by Stradivarius, the violin maker, to determine where to put the f-holes in his violins. |
