@Lighthouse and steeltown: While I agree that there needs to be a source, China and India wouldn't have made it to the top 7 anyway. Their populations are so huge and this is the amount of tea
per person.

I'd guess that tea is pretty popular in India and China but there's a fairly large chunk of the population in poverty and can't afford it. That would bring the average down quite a bit.

Its per capita. Tea is a luxury which most chinese and indians cannot afford.

2.3KG for the UK is just under 1000 cups of tea per person per year. I can vouch for this, my grandparents here offer me a cup of tea every 5 minutes when I visit them.
