| The border between Asia and Europe is still subject to debate. The most common definition delimits Europe from Asia at the Ural river and the watershed in the Caucasus mountains. This means that Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey are overlapping the border. Again, the most common definition here is that Russia is a European country with part of its territory in Asia, while Kazakhstan and Turkey are Asian countries with part of their territory in Europe. The Caucasus countries are historically and culturally European, but geographically mostly Asian. Cyprus is entirely in Asia geographically, but is culturally and historically considered European. France, Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark also have part of their territory on other continents (not including dependent territories). When making a quiz on Sporcle, you should follow Sporcle definitons, which puts Russia and Turkey in both Europe and Asia, Kazakhstan and the Caucasus in Asia and Cyprus in Europe. |
