I disagree. I think it's interesting to see which cities Google Maps chooses to show. This is not a matter of population, but which cities they think the user will know. Although I think the crowded-ness on the east coast is a factor too.

It a bit odd that Philadelphia is the only city they show on the east coast. One would have thought at least New York and Washington/Baltimore would be displayed. Neither of them are visible even if you zoom once.

An interesting property of google maps is that the starting view depends on the top domain - put any country TLD and in many cases it zooms on that country. Doesn't work for all countries though.

@cuendillar - Pretty sure Miami is on the East coast. Also, the city's official name is St. Louis, not Saint Louis.

Anchorage and Edmonton don't show up when I open up Google Maps. I have to scroll to be able to see them.

You forgot Edmonton, Anchorage, Honolulu...and you included Cincinnati even though it doesn't come up.

Cincinnati, Toledo and Tulsa didn't come up for me. However, Edmonton, Honolulu and Anchorage did if I scrolled a bit, you should probably make it clear that the quiz is only looking for cities found without scrolling the map at all.
