| PartyLikeRawr: "it's hard to even think about a number that has 303 zeroes"
One way to think about it is to remember that the prefix for each number just tells how many groups of three zeros there are (beyond the first). For example, a million has one group of three zeros (above 1000), a billion has two groups of three, a trillion has three, etc.
So you can also work backwards. If a number has 303 zeros, that means that it has 300 zeros after the first three, or 100 groups of three zeros. So "centi" is the prefix.
Another way to think about it is:
A number with m zeros is called an n-illion, where n=(m-3)/3. If it doesn't go evenly, then n is the whole number part. If the remainder is 1, it's 10 n-illion, and if it's 2, then the number is 100 n-illion. |
