As with every DigitalDreamDoor sourced list, there's a combination of good choices, obvious exception, and completely left field inclusions.

Fine quiz! ****ty list, but fine quiz! Does DDD actually have any concept of what constituted a "new wave" song? This is more like a list of "100 Songs from 1978-87 That Gained Enough Popularity Through MTV Airplay to Hit the Billboard Top 40". Anyway, thanks for a good quiz and a stroll down memory lane.

I agree with both of you guys. The list was not the best one ever made but I thought it could make a good quiz. It is really hard/impossible to make a "greatest of" list that everyone agrees on...

The omission of "How Soon is Now?" is glaring.

Why is it that grunge gets all the slack for being an ill-defined genre? I've never heard anyone adequately explain what the hell new wave was. And this list just proves it. Synthy-pop-rock without a lot of bass or blues influences?

Oh, how young and naive we were, never imagining that one day "NEW WAVE" would become "oldies!"

I was a metalhead in the '80s and therefore obligated to hate New Wave music. Can't believe how many of these I got right - and how many of these songs have stuck with me. I would definitely quibble with some of the "New Wave" categorization though. Joe Jackson?

I LOVE New Wave, and I was going to say I haven't even heard of 2 of these (Working Girl, and Why Me?), until I listened to them on YouTube and they sound VAGUELY familar. Those 2 are still some seriously obscure choices, though. Not the quizmaker's fault for what's on the list, however.

The smiths are not New Wave. How Soon is Now? should not be on the list

The quiz says "can you name the songs," but you give us the songs. Which is fine, but it's not what your title implies.
Dexys Midnight Runners does not have an apostrophe.

I enjoyed the quiz but we quibble over terms overseas. In the UK, new-wave was like a record-label follow up to punk rock without the amateurism and a lot of the attitude. Kinda better musicians but not hippies. Costello, Joe Jackson, maybe Tom Petty and the poppier end of real punk like Talking Heads and Blondie. Most of your British bands here would be categorised as new romantic or synth pop in the UK.

What I learned from this quiz: I was listening to NewWave in the 80's and I didn't even know it.

I realise there was an American band called The Beat and so the Ska/2-Tone band added the 'English' in the US to avoid confusion but please accept it without the prefix as most British people wouldn't know they are called that across the pond.

Thank you SHED! It now accepts both answers.
