In that case, neither did Caesar or William the Conqueror, I mean they're all historical figures regardless of faith. Believing that he's not the messiah means you're not a Christian, believing that he didn't exist means you're a moron.

Some scholars offer an explanation by attributing the Matthew line to the mother of Jesus and the Luke line to the father of Jesus. They say the Matthew version is Mary's ancestors, with Mary belonging to Joseph as a daughter. They say the Luke version is Joseph's ancestors, with Mary belonging to Joseph as a wife. That would mean Mary's husband and Mary's father had the same name-- Joseph.
