| @Tanner3: in my case, it was neither. I am familiar with Rand's work, and I recognize that is is universally panned by critics and not at the same level as any of the other writers involved. However, I was attempting to add a handful of female writers so that it was not a male-only quiz and, given the authors whose surnames begin with R (Rushdie, Rimbaud, Remarque, Roth), I decided that Rand was probably the most recognizable. In retrospect, seeing Grisham added by the Sporcle Adins in place of Gunter Grass, I could've switched Rand out for J.K. Rowling; however, my initial intentions had been for a classic literature quiz and not a pop/modern literature quiz. Regardless of what you or anyone else thinks of her, Ayn Rand fits the bill of 'famous author' (even if she is famous for the wrong reasons), and that is why she is constantly included on Sporcle quizzes. |
