This quiz makes no sense without a set of logic rules.

Hey THEJMAN, the logic behind this puzzle is great! The thing is, the difference between this quiz and the other well established ones (minefield puzzle, carmen sandiego puzzle, and halloween murder mystery) is that there's no additional knowledge needed in those quizzes to complete the quiz, where as your quiz you need to know a decent amount about pokemon to get through it. And it's extremely maddening to get stuck not because of a fault in my logic, but because of a fact about pokemon I don't know.
As it stands now, it's a pokemon logic AND knowledge quiz. I believe people are coming expecting a pure logic puzzle and end up disappointed because their lack of pokemon knowledge prevents them from having a fun time solving the puzzle.

I'm a little confused here. Maybe it's the terms. This is how to get the pokemon in game, correct? And wild is where it's possible to catch as is in the wild, caught requires raising by a trainer, and released is a special event, such as a legendary encounter or a trade. but if that is the case why is feraligatr wild? explanation plz
Nov 5th, 2012 at 23:42 GMT
It's a logic puzzle. You have to choose whether that 'mon is wild, captured, or released based on the clues that the game gives you.

"All Pokemon that evolve from (or are) starters are Wild". I see what you did there.
Nov 6th, 2012 at 02:16 GMT
@vikZ: Yeah, I know that. I felt like since Sporcle is built as a trivia site (and I know that the site is growing and adapting), I thought that throwing in a few hints where you need to know something about Pokemon fit in fairly well. Otherwise, I could have just used random words that had the same lengths and there would be no difference. I understand the disappointment some people see, and I'll put a game note in to that effect, but I still like having a bit of knowledge required.

1. Abomasnow made me want Arcanine to be Wild. 2. WHO ON EARTH WOULD RELEASE [Pokemon's name]!?
Nov 7th, 2012 at 20:54 GMT
Is this what Ash Did?
Nov 7th, 2012 at 22:48 GMT
"All legendary Pokemon in columns to my left are Wild" Arcanine is known as the Legendary Pokemon. Just sayin.
Nov 8th, 2012 at 03:04 GMT
@BR8N03epsilon and elmarcodepico: Arcanine's species is the Legendary Pokemon, but it is not a Legendary Pokemon. Rayquaza, Groudon, Jirachi, Celebi, Darkrai, etc. are Legendary.

I really enjoyed this, although I went wrong and I'm not sure if I can face figuring it all out again, as I was quite far through... still, it was a splendid quiz! :)

On Spiritomb's square, it says a bishop (I'm assuming a chess bishop) would only be able to attack one wild Pokemon. Bishops only move on a diagonal, and there is more than one wild Pokemon on Spiritomb's diagonals. It's incredibly misleading.

I .... really don't know what I'm suppose to do here. =S And with the quiz ending after one wrong move, really don't want to try either.
Nov 18th, 2012 at 01:20 GMT
really isn't enough info. have to guess too often
Nov 18th, 2012 at 01:31 GMT
@alehayes it doesn't say one wild pokemon. it says ONLY wild pokemon
Nov 18th, 2012 at 16:44 GMT
Pretty good quiz. Logic and a bit of (borrowed) Pokemon knowledge got me through most of it... not being able to remember which generation some of them came from left me with 2 at the end.

Gyarados should be wild, because he evolves from magikarp. Read the entry on Natu.
Dec 2nd, 2012 at 23:20 GMT
This is unsolvable. Unless spinoff starters count - I don't 100% remember the Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team starters. @shadow: Magikarp has not been a starter in any game. A gift, yes, but not a starter.

Um. Sceptile: "Three Pokemon adjacent to me are wild." There ARE only three Pokemon adjacent to it (diagonal =/= adjacent) and marking Mewtwo as wild is wrong, ending the quiz. What?
Dec 10th, 2012 at 17:03 GMT
@Mattster, the directions say that diagonal is considered adjacent, so it does count. Look at the fifth bullet point. The only issue I have is with the clue for Abra, if Arcanine was never caught, how can it be released? I know that caught and released are terms here, but you can't have one without the other, logically speaking.

Played this through 3 times, highscore 22. Grr.... Great quiz though! Had no clue what I was doing at first, but then I got it, and I think this is one of my favorite pokemon quizzes. When you said "All Pokemon that evolve from (or are) starters are wild" Do you mean first evolution, or literal starters, like bulbasaur, tepig, charmander, CYNDAQUIL, etc.? I did wild on some evolved pokemon, like Beedrill, Abomasnow, (obviously Sceptile and cyndaquil and Feraligatr :3)Lucario, Ariados, etc. Overall, 4 globes! It's not perfect, but VERY close to that!

I'm gonna lay this out as simply as I can When the first clue of a LOGIC puzzle tells me that 2 four letter Pokemon were (C)aught, but only one from this column, and then I click on Abra to decide that he was (C)aught because he is a four letter Pokemon in the first column; and then I am met with a Game Over and fail because of this decision, then this is NOT a game of Logic (it is a failure as such) and is ultimately nothing more than a game of chance and not worth a play-through at all.
Jan 9th, 2013 at 01:14 GMT
@youneedabath There is only one other four-letter Pokemon not in that column. Working from there, you will eventually realize that the first column's Onix is the other four-letter.

It took me several tries, but I finally figured it out! Awesome puzzle!
Feb 15th, 2013 at 13:59 GMT
Could you replace 'Pokemon' with 'Pokémon'. I just feel that the accent makes any Pokémon quiz look better.
Apr 24th, 2013 at 01:22 GMT
It was good, but Arcanine is classed as a legendary so there. :/
