I had this vague feeling I knew who the prankster was the whole time. Glad to know I was right all along. Fun quiz too!

Fun quiz, indeed. However, by the end of the series, Neville Longbottom was a current Hogwarts employee.
Nov 11th, 2012 at 20:31 GMT
pigheaded1--the instructions say that this is before the events in the epilog; Neville was still a student at this time.
Nov 11th, 2012 at 21:22 GMT
I like the "Sporclamus" twist. At first it confused me, since it wasn't mentioned in the instructions, but it was fantastic how playing the game explained this new twist to the logic puzzle format.
Nov 11th, 2012 at 22:40 GMT
nice game - i liked the sporclamus idea too. took me three goes, i hit a key by accident first time and made a silly mistake second tiime - which incidentally told me who the prankster was. one point - i was slightly unsure as to whether hagrid counted as a human or not as he is part giant - maybe that could be made clear.
Nov 11th, 2012 at 23:09 GMT
Since one clue states that "The prank can only affect and be cast by humans and werewolves", and Hagrid is only part human, shouldn't he be safe?
Nov 12th, 2012 at 18:14 GMT
I up-voted it, but I wanted to also add it as a comment, to make sure the problem is addressed - Hagrid is not entirely human, so the "humans and werewolves" clue needs to be improved, if he's included as human.

@THEJMAN, @EuphrasieF is correct, you can't have Hagrid as he is Half-Giant too, not a proper human. Change it!
Nov 12th, 2012 at 23:42 GMT
A couple of typos: "characters" in the quiz title; "werewolves" at Arabella Figg.
Nov 13th, 2012 at 05:18 GMT
does moody count as a current or former employee of hogwarts? i think that's debatable. i can't remember whether crouch poly-juiced him before or after he was hired, but one could argue it doesn't matter.
Nov 13th, 2012 at 14:50 GMT
Moody was employed by Hogwarts, but Crouch kidnapped him before he was able to show up for work. So it could probably go either way, and it might be a good idea to clarify it.
Nov 14th, 2012 at 02:24 GMT
You changed the tense frequently...try and stick with past tense, as that's what you seem to use the most.

I think I've spotted a flaw in this puzzle, but (since I enjoyed it immensly nonetheless), I would welcome someone to point out my mistake :) As far as I see it, if Sirius Black was the only one to cast 'Sporclamus' and cure only one victim, then Ron Weasley should also be a victim; Greyback is a victim, but one cured by Mad-eye (otherwise Hermione's clue doesn't work). This being the case, it would appear that Umbridge only cures Neville (Greyback doesn't need curing twice). As such, Umbridge also only cures one victim... Is this a flaw? It certainly seems it.
Nov 15th, 2012 at 01:51 GMT
I loved this quiz! It only took me 6 tries, but now I've figured out the whole Sporclamus thing..I like it!!
Nov 15th, 2012 at 02:07 GMT
@MattPriest: That's a very good point...they way I thought it, though, was that Sporclamus isn't an instant fix. Therefore, both Umbridge and Mad-Eye casting Sporclamus goes toward curing Fenrir. Although only one Sporclamus is required to cure a single person, two would just accelerate it.
Nov 15th, 2012 at 19:28 GMT
@THEJMAN: Thank you for the non-aggressive and actually helpful response! (I was expecting the exact opposite.) I see what you mean, and, seeing as I enjoyed this quiz, I'll choose to see it that way from now on.
Nov 16th, 2012 at 00:52 GMT
A few very nice twists. Although I must say that the "some knowledge required" is a severe understatement. Having read the books and watched most of the movies, I had some troubles figuring stuff out (Did I really get all the animagi? Who the heck has a sister mentioned in the books? - the latter was clear after some thinking but only as an educated guess for me). So while it works great as a fusion "knowledge/logic" quiz, it not only requires "some" knowledge, which I would define as "passing knowledge you'll get when you actually saw it" but some in depth rememberings.
Nov 17th, 2012 at 17:00 GMT
Someone who felt like being really pedantic could point out that, while no siblings of Draco appear in the books, he might in theory have a sister who is never mentioned. Fortunately, I don't. An extremely well-worked out quiz (even if some of the behaviour is a little out of character). Some of us really do need to get out more though.
Nov 17th, 2012 at 21:35 GMT
I like the idea of this, but not giving any info on the sporclamus is extremely frustrating to figure out and if characters are dead (and not ghosts) how can they be involved anyway? Going to retry, but I think it could use some clarification
Nov 18th, 2012 at 01:18 GMT
came down to ron/dumbledore and had to make a guess. thankfully i guessed right
Nov 20th, 2012 at 03:28 GMT
I thought Krum was an animagus.
Nov 20th, 2012 at 20:53 GMT
wait...it said only one teacher was it (hagrid). so i clicked dumbledore as safe....ohhh...dw I get it now :)
Nov 21st, 2012 at 01:34 GMT
you have to word dobby's clue better.
Nov 21st, 2012 at 02:18 GMT
@brichards719: Dobby and Umbridge's clues tell you that it's not Ron
Nov 27th, 2012 at 04:19 GMT
I wasn't sure if ghosts (Myrtle) were considered non-human since they are HUMAN ghosts... figured they had to be or else this quiz would require guessing. Unless there was something else I missed?
Nov 27th, 2012 at 18:20 GMT
this doesn't make sense
Nov 28th, 2012 at 17:18 GMT
potatefy, I thought the same until I googled what squibs were in the Potter universe. Once you're up and running with that, you can carry on.

It says that Animagi are safe...if Lupin counts as one, then Greyback should as well.
Dec 4th, 2012 at 02:28 GMT
@quinnopolis: Lupin's not an Animagus, but he is a former Hogwarts employee.
Dec 21st, 2012 at 18:44 GMT
I agree that Dobby's clue needs to be worded better - it is unclear what you mean until you go through the tutorial.
Dec 23rd, 2012 at 17:14 GMT
In agreement with the previous commenters saying that Dobby's clue is confusing. How about: "The prankster isn't within range of a Sporclamus?"
Jan 2nd, 2013 at 22:03 GMT
I got the prankster... but I was left with Cho and Greyback :( so i didn't get it all
Jan 14th, 2013 at 23:16 GMT
great quiz, liked the sporclamus idea, but surely Dumbledore counts as a former Hogwarts employee?
Jan 22nd, 2013 at 23:37 GMT
@Josie_Posie: He does, but McGonagall's clue only specifies that one Hogwarts employee is not a victim. It says nothing about him being the prankster. Great quiz- hard, but not impossible
Feb 17th, 2013 at 08:08 GMT
loved it! thought it was him all along. He does enjoy doing pranks.
Mar 1st, 2013 at 01:08 GMT
Well, it only took 16 tries! I still don't understand the Sporcalamus thing, so I had to guess a bit. Can someone please explain? Great game, though! I really enjoyed it!
Apr 24th, 2013 at 23:40 GMT
Great game! Weird, though, Dumbledore as a prankster. Potter was a victim. Never knew he'd hurt his students.
Apr 27th, 2013 at 20:23 GMT
@samchal- and he's also a werewolf
May 3rd, 2013 at 10:59 GMT
Not a logic quiz, as it requires knowledge, not logic, to solve. Should remove that tag.
