As someone already said about the comparable "hottest countries quiz," the "lowest temperature ever recorded" is a very bad measure of what the "Coldest countries" are. As it stands, Russia is both one of the coldest and one of the hottest, which makes little sense.

It makes perfect sense. Russia is a huge country that experiences a continental climate which means there is a huge difference in summer and winter temperatures in general as the oceans aren't close enough to moderate the climate i.e. warm the air in the winter and cool it in the summer. Extreme temperatures have to be used as the actual temperatures accross a country vary from place to place and this variation in a country as big as rRussia can be in excess of 10 degrees celsius which would make the very unfair and inaccurate. At least with extremes there is only 1 value for each country.

Guess Iceland should change its name...

Definitely. The coldest temperature Iceland has ever experinced is -37.9 degrees celsius. It's not even close to being the coldest place in europe.

@chanandlerbong-even though iceland isnt up here, one sixth of the country is still covered by glaciers, so not an entirely inaccurate name.

It seems like Denmark should be in this list as a result of Greenland. It has been as cold as -66.1 degrees Celsius at North Ice, Greenland.

The reason Iceland is not all that cold for its latitude is that its a small island and warmed by the ocean, rather than being in a continental landmass.

Damn, didn't think of Italy! Also tried guessing Iceland and Denmark, surprised those didn't make it! Though Greenland, while part of Denmark, isn't geographically European, maybe that's why it was excluded?

I didn't include Greenland as it is geographically located outside of Europe.

There's been some very 'cool' comments here and some 'cold' ones. Easy quiz really for anyone with basic geography. I'm glad I didn't have any brain 'freezes' during this quiz too. I'd 'hail' a similar quiz...damn ran out of puns... :P
