	Good idea, but I think you've got some of these wrong. For example, the Philippines were an American colony until 1946(?), and the nations of Central America were united after they broke away from Spain.

	You're very much correct. That's the problem with using Wikipedia i guess, but I couldn't find much better. Will take out Guatemala and Nicaragua and add USA to Philippines. Thanks

	Papua New guinea was, along with Indonesia an Dutch colony but became indepent late. You should add Netherlands as second answer for it.

	From an albeit quick search it seems that the Dutch only colonised the west of the island of New Guinea, whereas the East was under British and then Aussie control. The Dutch part is now a province of Indonesia. I guess I'll add the UK to the USA answer, seems it could be a little hard otherwise.

	Good idea - a few suggestions: First, accept Turkey for Ottoman Empire. I guessed Turkey first and then guessed Ottoman Empire after many other guesses didn't work. Second, I would shorten the time limit a bit (it allowed me to guess lots of wrong answers and still get to answer every country).

	I was considering whether or not to accept successor states for former countries such as Russia for Soviet Union or Czech Republic but I guess the Ottoman Empire was more similar to the British Empire and as such Turkey was the ruler so I've added that in. In terms of time, one person suggests more and one less. Sounds lke it might be about right in it's current incarnation?

	The Kingdoms of Scotland and England united in 1707, so "United Kingdom of Great Britain" (or UK) is an acceptable contemporary term from 1707 to 1801, although others were also used. And to MathijsP, you're confusing the two halves of the island. The former Dutch half (West Irian) is still part of Indonesia. Papua was the British, later Australian, part of the eastern half of New Guinea; the other part was German until it became an Australian mandate under the League of Nations after World War I (and a UN trust territory after World War II.) Papua and the Trust Territory of New Guinea united in 1975 to form the present country of Papua New Guinea.

	Nice quiz. Lot of UK though. Could also include: Indonesia (Netherlands, 1949), Kosovo (Serbia, 2008), Hungary (Austria-Hungary, 1918?), Netherlands (Spain, 1648 [or France, 1813]), Libya (Italy, 1947), Montenegro (Serbia & Montenegro, 2006) to make it somewaht harder and more diverse.
