| Since your definition excludes 'Wars of Independence', I'm not sure if the Pakistan-Bangladesh War should count here since Bangladesh became independent at the end.
Another point: although it is tempting to argue that the Thirty Years' War was a civil war, the fact was that should the former be listed as a civil war, then all future wars involving individual states within the HRE on opposing sides should also be counted as civil wars e.g. the War of the Austrian Succession, the Seven Years' War etc.
And I think based on the current definition, there might be a couple more wars that could be added in:
The Sengoku Period of Japan (which was not over by 1550).
Chinese peasant rebellions in the late Ming 1620s - 1644.
War of the Three Feudatories (Qing China) 1673 - 1681.
Polish revolts of 1830 and 1861 (when it was part of Russia)
Egyptian-Ottoman War 1831 - 1833 (Where Egypt was technically a Governorate)
War of the Confederation, Peru-Bolivia, 1830s (debatable)
Hungarian/Galician/Liberal Revolts of 1848 in Austria
Nian/Dungan revolts in China, 1840s - 1860s
Bulgarian Rebellion in Ottoman Empire - 1876 (debatable)
Aceh Rebellion in Indonesia, 1950s - 2004
Unrest in Southern Thailand, present
Insurrection in Mindanao, Philippines
To be honest, I think your definition of "civil war" needs to be cleared up a little... |
