@Djibouti: I can't answer that entirely, but in general terms, but I really don't think it's likely that Sporcle will be featuring a Home Shopping Channel quiz any time soon.
But keep in mind, this site is Sporcle.com and that bold part is short for commercial. The people who run Sporcle and have put up money to get it started, keep it going, store your results, continuously try to make it better, and give it to you free deserve a return on their investments.
I think this is a terrific quiz, and made it an Editor's pick, without knowing that it had been planned together by Sporcle and the Smithsonian. It's an innovative format for music quizzes that I hope starts a trend.
Yes, I'd love to see labels like Rhino Records also use Sporcle to launch their products, providing that there's entertainment value in the quiz itself.
Additionaly this quiz at least is not a one-way street in terms of advertising. The Smithsonian website for this album is linking back to these quizzes, introducing Sporcle to a wide range of new users.
It's an innovative arrangement that benefits both Smithsonian Folkways (the same government-sponsored non-profit organization responsible for so many museums in Washington DC) and Sporcle. |
