pulled only works if you talk in a chicago-like accent, so i see why you say that. with a southern accent it doesn't come close, though

D3nn1s and anyone else who makes suggestions, can you say where you are from? The difference in accents is really interesting and funny. I am from NJ and neither "pulled" nor "called" sound like "cold" at all.

bowled, shoaled, poled (yes, these latter two can be verbs).... and the common pronunciation for gamboled would make it rhyme with gambled, not cold....
