What are your opinions on the amount of time I gave?
May 30th, 2012 at 04:51 GMT
In what universe is Adrian known as Purple Jesus? Around these parts he's known as "All Day."
May 30th, 2012 at 05:27 GMT
Greene is spelled with an "e" on the end. And is Ochocinco still considered a nickname when he's legally changed his name to that?
Comment below threshold:

Ok I will fix that. Weird I did a google search to check briefly, and the suggestions gave no e, but after a further check you are correct. Also Ochocinco will have to do, if you haven't noticed there is a great shortage in football nicknames, explaining the Purple Jesus thing as well.

A decent quiz. But really, a shortage of football nicknames? Ironhead, Roger the Dodger, Kansas Comet, Night Train, Mad Stork, Bar None, White Shoes, Galloping Ghost, Crazy Legs, Jake the Snake, Ickey, Juice, Sam the Bam, Minister of Defense ...

Should add Doctor J to basketball and Iron Man to baseball.

flying hawaiiian is shane victorino not troy polamolu
May 30th, 2012 at 12:48 GMT
If there's a shortage of nicknames (which there isn't), just leave them out rather than use lousy ones.
May 30th, 2012 at 14:28 GMT
Who calls Polamalu the Flyin' Hawaiian? He's not even Hawaiian, he is Samoan and grew up in California. That doesn't make sense
May 30th, 2012 at 17:43 GMT
Ok so which player should I use instead. I was thinking Elroy Crazy Legs Hirsch. Also, I response to wolfpack, I want to leave each category even at 10 players
May 30th, 2012 at 19:22 GMT
Never heard of Adrian Peterson being called Purple Jesus
May 30th, 2012 at 22:46 GMT
Ummmm...You left off the best nick-name of all time: Daryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins. Who just happened to be from the planet Lovetron.
May 31st, 2012 at 14:07 GMT
I considered putting Chocolate Thunder, and I might make an NBA only quiz

It's William Perry, not "Williams" Perry. And there are plenty of good football nicknames - Prime Time (Deion Sanders), Night Train (Dick Lane), Lights Out (Shawne Merriman), Megatron (Calvin Johnson), The Golden Boy (Tom Brady), Ironhead (Craig Heyward), The Nigerian Nightmare (Christian Okoye), The Galloping Ghost (Red Grange), The Rocket (Raghib Ismail), The Burner (Michael Turner), L.T. (Lawrence Taylor or Ladainian Tomlinson), Run DMC (Darren McFadden), Bad Moon (Andre Rison), Slingin' (Sammy Baugh)

A shortage of football nicknames? Along with all the others mentioned, you could even make a list out of just Cowboys: Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Bob "Mr. Cowboy" Lilly, "Bullet" Bob Hayes, "Dandy" Don Meredith, Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson, Daryl "Moose" Johnston, Michael "The Playmaker" Irvin, "Prime Time" "Neon" Deion Sanders, Raghib "Rocket" Ismail, Marion "The Barbarian" Barber III, "Captain Comeback" Roger Staubach, "The Kitchen" Nate Newton

@CactusZ - My friend, a Minnesota transplant here in California, calls him Purple Jesus all the time. But I guess he's got a lot of nicks.
Jun 20th, 2012 at 16:55 GMT
No Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd or Bob "Death to Flying Things" Ferguson? Also for football: Lou "The Toe" Groza, Ken "The Snake" Stabler, Randy "The Manster" White, and of course, Chad "Wait, I'm not suppposed to throw to the guys on the other team?" Henne.

@minnmich don't forget Jaws
Jun 22nd, 2012 at 20:52 GMT
Only one Twin Cities sports figure gets to use a Jesus nickname, and that's Joe "Baby Jesus" Mauer.
May 14th, 2013 at 04:43 GMT
Aw, how could you forget the two greatest nicknames in sports: Lester "The Molester" Hayes, and Jose "The Big Potato" Valverde?
