The IUCN is pretty secretive about how it gets its numbers, so I can't explain all of them, but for some of these countries I can only guess that circumstance leads to a particularly high/low number. For instance, I imagine it's a lot easier to discover and monitor endangered species in the USA than it is in the DRC. Still, there are plenty of genuine surprises in here, I think you'll agree. |
