Good quiz, clever twist on the landlocked country theme. You could use the term countries instead of nations, since all the nations you accept are also countries in the accepted Sporcle sense, although The Holy See is known as Vatican City rather than the Vatican.

@tahitiwahini- Thanks for the suggestions. I've updated the quiz to reflect them.

I kept scanning European countries, realizing that there was a huge clump of Central European landlocked countries... then forgot Belarus thinking it bordered Slovakia/Hungary, but Poland and Ukraine got in the way there!

Good quiz. I missed Moldova, Belarus, and Ethiopia. I forgot to even consider Africa when I was mentally mapping the world.

This quiz will need to be updated in a couple of weeks to remove Ethiopia (South Sudan). Could be quickest update in Sporcle history.

/ Possibly... but I'm sure there'll be more geography quizzes out by then, and some will have to be changed. I bet Sporcle will do something special to the Geography branch when South Sudan becomes independent.

Awesome quiz, finished the first time with 0:07 left so time is fine by me. One can skip the America's and Oceania really swiftly and then run along the coastlines.

Quite impressive that Belarus, Ethiopia and Laos border zo many countries which all have a coast and have none themselves. In each of these cases there is water on several sides of the countries

does jordan just barely touch the red sea because to me it looks like it should be on here? iraq i know just barely touches the persian gulf so all the countries around it work.

Are countries bordering the Caspian Sea considered landlocked? If they aren't then Armenia would make this list (surrounded by Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea, Georgia, Iran and Turkey)

@Kevmaster5000: Yes, Jordan does touch the Red Sea at Aqaba. @MCDD: The Caspian Sea is landlocked. It is the world's largest lake and has no outlet to the sea. @preacherjonson: Switzerland touches two other landlocked countries, Austria and Liechtenstein.

@ gowhere - I was reading the comments and thinking "I can answer that ... and that ... and ... oh!" You beat me to it :oD Personally, I got to the r in Luxembourg and thought "Nope, Switzerland is landlocked." Well, yes. Yes it is. But no, it does not border Luxembourg!! Ah well. Good quiz :o)

Paraguay and Bolivia touch each other, so their neighbors are not landlocked. It's not just landlocked countries!

* I meant they HAVE landlocked neighbors (each other) and therefore don't belong here.

This was pretty hard. I only had three right answers, but I randomly typed in Bhutan with 2 seconds left to get four. It was the equivalent of nailing a full court shot at the buzzer. With my team down by 25.

@gamegirl360 Liechtenstein doesn't make this list because it borders Switzerland and Austria, both of which are also landlocked. In fact, Liechtenstein is one of only 2 doubly landlocked countries, i.e. it is landlocked and only borders landlocked countries.

Wow, Belarus, Ethiopia and Laos. I never would have guessed those. I think Eritrea would have thrown me off for Ethiopia. And I swore Laos had coast.

@jamcnam: Armenia borders Azerbaijan which is landlocked. Azerbaijan's sea border is on the Caspian which has no outlet to the ocean. I had the same reaction at first, but the Caspian always trips me up.

Armenia borders a) Turkey, which has a coast on the Black Sea and Med. Sea and b) Iran, which has a coast on the Indian Ocean/Persian Gulf. Clearly, Azerbaijan and the Caspian are moot points really.....
