This quiz is not trying to be anything more than a collection of movie themes. Rather than typing in all the regular movies that are in these sorts of quizzes just to get the best score (no pun intended), I suggest you turn up the volume, sit back, and enjoy these brilliant pieces of music.
Having said that, certain franchises may have more than one movie's score so that's something to watch out for, and when you play through all the themes, you will only have about a minute to review missed answers.

i have the "narnia" soundtrack. and i missed that one. yup.

I always like these music of movies quizzes. Music is an underrated aspect of film-making. I have enormous respect for John Williams, as every soudntrack he conducts is a classic masterpiece.

You should accept "The Elephant Man" for the 1:17 mark in Best Picture nominated films. I'm sure you know the piece is Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" and it is also used in "The Elephant Man" which was nominated for best picture in 1980

Good quiz but I dont agree with your definition of "classics." In my mind classics are pretty old, not 80's and 90's movies. (And I dont think Speed will ever be considered a classic anyway)
Aug 6th, 2011 at 08:29 GMT
Yeah, I think "classics" can be quite relative. I think most of them can still be considered as a classic but I agree with Speed. I just played this myself and was quite surprised that I had put Speed as a classic. Hahah. Definitely an error in judgment there. If I can find the old files, I may swap Speed with the first "Lesser Knowns" movie.
Would that be a good idea?
Aug 6th, 2011 at 15:59 GMT
The no.1 in lesser knowns is wrong i'm afraid. I don't want to give away the answer but it is not the film mentioned.
Aug 6th, 2011 at 20:53 GMT
Wow good catch. Although it would've been slightly more helpful had you given me the actual correct answer. I've changed it to the sequel but I don't really know if
is the right answer either.

there are several songs on this list that have appeared in many movies. Barber's "Adagio for Strings" is in Amelie (best foreign language film nominee) for example, and dozens of movies have used "Thus spake Zarathustra" after 2001 made it popular, it's so ubiquitous that it has its own tvtropes page: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AlsoSprachZarathustra

The answer for Broken Arrow was also used in the Scream series. Most notably the second one when Gail and Dewey are straddling each other on the desk while watching the home footage to figure who the killer is.
Aug 6th, 2011 at 22:42 GMT
@njb042: I will add Amelie as an alternate answer but Thus spake Zarathustra (in terms of film scores) is always associated with 2001. I actually thought the same with Adagio for Strings too, but I guess it's to a lesser extent.
@leviper: The title isn't literal. It is just a play on a movie title. There are also several piano pieces too

Great quiz. Can't believe I missed all the Harry Potters!
Aug 7th, 2011 at 18:55 GMT

Aug 7th, 2011 at 18:59 GMT
i take back the harry potter comment
Aug 8th, 2011 at 03:03 GMT
Is there any reason why typing "con" gets you "The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe"?? I was trying to guess Con-Air; I've never seen anyone refer to LWW solely as Chronicles of Narnia, much less in acronym form. If it were up to me I'd drop a few and leave more time for us to rewind.
Aug 8th, 2011 at 04:34 GMT
Hmm, I just had a look and there's a whole bunch of varying acronyms for Narnia. I don't remember putting them in at all! I've removed them all anyway.
As for dropping a few, I think the main problem is the length of the "Lesser Knowns" category. Even with its extended themes, they're the lowest guessed, so I could maybe knock off a minute or two there to save a bit of time. It'll take a while though because I'd need to re-edit it all. Vote this comment up or down if you think the "Lesser Knowns" themes should be shortened.

This quiz is just so amazing I don't know what to say except that I need to update my iTunes library.

Can you accept Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was well as Sorcerer's Stone? It properly confused me
Aug 10th, 2011 at 21:01 GMT
It already is acceptable. It always has been.

I keep coming back to this quiz even though I know the answers. I am just in love with the collections of music in this quiz.

@Sheldon My bad, sorry!

Amazing quiz! I almost forgot to guess anything and just listened to the music!
Oct 26th, 2011 at 20:31 GMT
@sheldon: I gave this my 5 globe rating while still listening in the Animated Section at a point where I had gotten only 18 of 91 correct. Thank you for producing a beautiful piece of work at the same time as it plays as a game. Appreciate the incredible amount of work to find all of your samples and weave them together. I know you did this some time ago, but great work!
