	Great quiz, very comprehensive. I have never, however, seen an accent over the "I" in Istanbul. Even if this is correct, you need to accept it without the accent.

	Yes, it needs to accept "Istanbul", and also (as per Sporcle convention) "DRC" and "Rep Congo" for the relevant countries. Also, "British America" for the US is not entirely accurate - or at least you should accept Canada as well.

	To several comments above: yes, Turkish spelling distinguishes between dotted i and undotted i (both uppercase and lowercase); they're different letters. But while it's an excellent point in favor of the quiz maker to give the correct Turkish spelling, for the game it should be accepted with the usual i (lowercase with dot, uppercase without). I can type a Spanish ñ, a French ô, a German ü, a Swedish å and even an Icelandic ð, but it's impossible for me to type a dotted I or a dotless i.

	I like the quiz but would question the inclusion of Netherlands - Holland is a region of the Netherlands and the country is often referred to as that but it wasn't renamed. Likewise Eire is the Irish langauge name for Ireland

	I wonder if there is a way to come up with a better heading than Renamed countries - This might solve Davedufc's concern as well as some of mine. I am not certain if Formosa was ever a country, but modern Taiwan is not a successor of it, nor is the Czech Republic a successor of the middle ages country of Bohemia. That said, I did understand what the creator was going for and thought it was a fun quiz.

	British America was a commonly used name for Canada until at least 1900 or so.

	Additionally to the above comments, Ivory Coast and Cote d'Ivoire are not really different names, nor Byelorussia and Belarus, Moldavia and Moldova, Calcutta and Kolkata, Bombay and Mumbai, Lundenburgh and London, or Ruanda and Rwanda. Basutoland and Bechuanaland are also not technically different from Lesotho and Botswana, but they did change names more than those other places.

	Holland isn't renamed into the netherlands, it's a region and a popular name for the netherlands.

	Israel is not the same thing as Mandate Palestine. The West Bank and Gaza were part of Mandate Palestine and are not part of Israel.

	As far as I know, Moldova has never been called Moldavia. Moldavia is part of Romania. In the USSR days, it was called the Moldavian SSR, and the demonym is Moldavian, but I don't think it was called Moldavia.

	@joebobs: Your comment goes to my point above. Moldavia was an independent principality, but Moldova is not a successor state to that independent principality, so it is not a renaming of a country.

	Another thing. Formosa is indeed the old name for Taiwan. But the people of Taiwan, never formally called it Formosa. To the Chinese People who eventually settled there, Taiwan had always been Taiwan, there was no change. It is like saying Japan was renamed Japan from Nippon which is Japan in Japanese. Bohemia is a region. It still is one and the area of Bohemia is still called that. The present day Czech Republic is the combination of the regions of Bohemia and Moravia. Saying the Czech Republic is Bohemia renamed is like saying America is New Jersey renamed. German New Guinea did not gain statehood and then change its name. Rather it was occupied by South Africa and renamed South West Africa. When it achieved independence in 1991, it was renamed Namibia
