Interesting correlation between where the US sends the most money and where is considered to be the most dangerous. Also, I wonder if people born in Northern Ireland that later emigrate to Ireland are considered foreign-born.

It's really a kick in the crotch whenever you forget Kyrgyzstan.

I don't trust this source. The UAE has BY FAR the highest percentage of foreign-born persons of any major country in the world, and Monaco is about 85 percent foreign born. This source is not accurate.

I agree with the above and add that everyone in the Vatican is born in another country - even children with Vatican parents are typically born in Rome.

I looked at the source and only OECD countries are included in the "foreign-born population" statistics. It's probably better to find another source for that one.

I've traveled to Israel 7 times and feel much safer walking the streets there than in New York City. Contrary to what the news tells you, it's actually one of the safest countries in the world.

@sinatra22 and newenglander - agreed - and I'd feel a lot more secure visiting most parts of Iraq than I would in somalia, sudan, DRC, Chad, etc.

@elephant_stone: they aren't counted as foreign born; residents of NI can hold a British or an Irish passport, and are permitted dual citizenship. Ireland's numbers come from the large amount of Eastern European immigrants during the "Celtic Tiger" period who came there for jobs since they could immigrate easily with an EU passport

@sinatra22 - NYC is one the safest large cities in the US. Unless you are from some small midwestern village, I can't imagine how you could find it to be dangerous.

Can someone please explain to me how the prison rate works. It seems to me like it's saying Russia has 730 people in jail per 1,000 inmates...which doesn't make sense.

Need to fix the subtitle of the prison population list to "Per 100,000 inhabitants". (Check your source.)

When 33% of people are guessing that Dominica has one of the highest prison rates, you have too much time on your quiz.

Am I the only one wondering why we're sending 1.4 billion in aid to Russia every year? Shouldn't they be able to aid themselves at this point?

@backer - probably guessing Dominican Republic and just getting Dominica as a product of their guess.

"Aid" is a pretty cynic word when civil casualties occur every day in Afghanistan and Iraq ...
