	This is the first time I've seen Dimaggio ranked ahead of Ruth, let alone Gehrig, Dickey, and Zack Wheat. This guy may have played the game but he obviously knows squat about baseball or had an axe to grind.

	In 57 Dimaggio would still be fresh in minds as a great. There's no one on the list that absolutely shouldn't be there. He ranked it how he saw it. The quote in the first comment should tell you how he felt about Ruth. Players will always evaluate peers differently than fans.

	Wow, no Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, Harry Heilmann, or Hank Greenberg. Wow, Max Carey should have stuck to playing ball, but I guess even then everyone had an opinion. He was obviously a little partial to the dead ball era.

	"Players will always evaluate peers differently than fans." I usually don't side with the statheads, but you're simply wrong here. Ruth was so much more dominant than every other player, not just of his era, but of pretty much all of them, that it isn't even funny. To have just missed it, or had a different opinion, shows ignorance, or that his opinion was based on stupid criteria - which his explanation shows to be the case. Max Carey didn't understand his own sport.

	I'm not sure how much I value Max Carey's opinion, but this makes for an interesting quiz. Also, he probably has insight into the topic that people who weren't born until decades after he actually competed with these people just never will have.

	@gdfella--Willie Mays was only in the beginning of his brilliant career in 1957. That explains why he wouldn't be on a list of the 20 greatest that was made in 1957. Plus, we all know that Max Carey was a drunk retard.

	I think if you look at Max Carey's career numbers you understand why his biases were what they were. But they were wrong. I'll take Babe Ruth over Vince Coleman, thanks. And it has nothing to do with his having a different perspective or different insights that I can never have. Different, yes, but demonstrably incorrect. It's sad to think of how many players got less than their due (or lost their jobs) because of "gut feelings" that were wrong but were all anyone had to go on besides a few outdated simplistic stats that didnt tell how good the player really was - and its equally sad to think of the players who got or kept jobs they didnt deserve, and received praise they didnt deserve, based on those same stats. Many of them are now in the Hall.

	Carey's list is better than most old time player's lists. Usually there is serious old fogeyism going on. This is minor in comparison.
