| I have also heard N2O4 has dinitrogen tetroxide, without the 'a' According to google, "nitrogen tetroxide" is the most common, followed by "dinitrogen tetroxide," while the "tetraoxide" spellings get fewer results. Hegemon is correct that many of the names are not the ones most commonly used: P2O5, which actually makes molecules of P4O10, is commonly called phosphorus pentoxide or more correctly tetraphosphorus dec(a)oxide. Also, BiCl3 can be called bismuth(III) chloride because bismuth is a metal (the compound appears to be molecular from its crystal structure and melting point though, so this name probably isn't the most correct).
Overall fun quiz though, thanks for making it! |
