Pretty fun, but this is basically just the states with the most people. Colleges per capita might be a more interesting statistic.

Nope, excellent amount of time, because if you get to think about it too much, it's easy. But with this short sprint, you get some oopses. And Chris, I missed mine too... Tar Heel shame :(

I think two minutes might be a better time. With a minute, you don't have much time to think about your responses. I'm one of those who actually thinks about possible answers, rather than just type random states.

I'd need two minutes. It takes me one minute to type Massachusetts.

This is the right amount of time. With two minutes, you can guess all 50 states.

^really?? minnesota was the 4th answer i typed (after CA, TX and PA). but maybe because i lived there for a long time so i knew that it's known for its emphasis on education.

I think zlb33's points and sleepyhead's points both contribute to Minnesota's relatively high placement on this list compared to population- there are a lot of small colleges in the state that people from other parts of the country most likely haven't heard of.

Really surprised to see NC beats Massachusetts. I know it's small, but Boston is one of most, if not THE most, densely scholastic areas in the country.

At first I was surprised Pennsylvania has more colleges than Texas. But once I thought about it, everything is bigger in Texas...so the colleges must be also. Bigger colleges, you don't need as many of them!

@defineexistence: NC's population is almost half again that of MA. NC also has the research triangle. Here's a cool map of the colleges in the state. http://bit.ly/SUr2Ze You can google the same for other states as well.

I also live in Missouri, and guessed it as a joke. Glad I live here, not sure I would've thought to guess it otherwise!
