| @GeoExpert: yes, that was a true group of death. Sweden had their best squad in years (Larsson, Ljungberg, etc.), Nigeria had advanced the last two World Cups, Argentina was stocked to win the tourny, and England was England. And to add to the people saying that was a crazy tournament, I'd like to note that my U.S. team, who played like garbage in '98, was drilling Portugal (as in Figo-led Portugal) 3-0 at one point with a bunch of has-beens, Euro 2nd-tier substitutes, and U-21 players. There were maybe two outfield guys fit for decent European squads (Reyna and Eddie Pope) and they beat Portugal and made the quarters. God bless football. |
