| i tried "east capital" (tokyo) and "north capital" (beijing) and "fragrant bay" (hong kong)... all of which i would say are perfectly acceptable translations, but none of which were accepted! aside from that, there are TONS OF ERRORS in this quiz. "zhounggua" is not anything in chinese! the word is "zhongguo", and that's not a place name in English anyway! (or, if we're using the local names in the local languages, hong kong should be "xiang gang" not "hong kong" -- or else it's not "Chinese (Mandarin)" as you say. "hong kong" is an approximation of the cantonese pronunciation.) also, "tien shan" is incorrect, it should be "tian shan". and "taklimakan" is absolutely not mandarin chinese. according to wikipedia it looks like it's probably a uyghur word, which would make sense given the location, and by the way is a language that is not related to chinese in any way. there is a chinese name for the place, of course, and that is "takelamagan shamo" according to wikipedia. moving away from china, "bern" means "bears" plural, not singular (and is not standard german). and it should be "jornada" not "jornanda". also, small thing, i think for mediterranean i would accept something along the lines of "middle of the earth" too. |
