Is there a reason Austin, Texas doesn't work?

That reason would be, because I accidentally put Texas instead of Austin!! Sorry :P Changed it now, thank you very much.

I keep confusing my capitals & largest cities. I tried Birmingham, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit & Portland.

Now my question is how many people actually know what state Charleston is the capital of?

See, I don't think Charleston is one of the harder state capitals...never mind, I take that back. I thought it was SC, when it is in fact WV. Hats off to you, socraticmethod, you fooled me on a state capital question.

At first I was going to argue that these should definitely be forced-location answers. Then, as the clock ran low and the only capitals to pop into my panicked brain had and L or N in third position, I got much less cocky. Surprisingly fun.

Wow! I definitely did not look at the time limit before I started! That definitely makes this a fun and challenging quiz!

St Paul ought to get Saint Paul, surely? I mean, I realise that you don't get the 'I' in St Paul, but it's the same thing. I guessed it with 1 or 2 seconds to go and didn't get it, then it came up when the quiz ended...

Good quiz, but would have liked an extra minute.

No, don't add time, the time crunch adds a lot to this. It's not hard for many of us to name all 50 capitals given time, but to come up with the one or two with the letter needed is what makes the quiz good. In my opinion.

I'd say a bonus "P" is in order for St. Paul.

Should accept St Paul, since that is how it is usually written. Country quizzes take St Lucia and USA. This is the same thing.

I'm almost 30 years old, not to mention addicted to sporcle, and yet somehow this is first I am hearing of Jefferson City. I've lived my whole life thus far thinking Kansas City was the capitol of Missouri. Bizarre.

"How it's usually written" is a slippery slope - should we say Phoenix counts for X because a lot of people write "PHX"? Saint Paul is the name, so it should count as an I. (Whereas St. Louis, if it were the capital, would count as an L, because that is the city's actual name - it's NOT "Saint Louis.")
