I had a lot of fun trying this, but ran out of time way too soon. I'd like a chance to get more beginnings typed in before time runs out :-)

I see the above comment has 7 likes - If it gets to 10 then I shall up it a minute as it seems people agree.

I'm still having fun with it at 3 minutes. Can we have it longer? Please. You'll still get a standard distribution curve, just higher up the number correct list.

5 minutes would be good.

I like it at 3 minutes - I just wished I had noticed the time limit before I was down to about 45 seconds!

Thanks! That's a very good quiz. I would like answers to be in order, but oh well. At the moment it's definitely impossible to finish this game, but that's not a problem.

Great idea. Unfortunately, however, this seems more of a typing challenge than knowledge of countries. Though you need both of course.

I didn't think this was very challenging until I saw the time, still only got 107!

Ok then. For the time. If you get the first post to 35 votes then I will make it 4 minutes. Also if you want it in alphabetical order, vote 'CooCooCachoo's post to 10.

i thought this was great, but I would disagree with the alpha order idea as this makes it more challenging (142/196)

Ok final change to 4minutes but I don't think alphabetical order matters much really.

I think alphabetical would make it too easy but the time is better.

Anyone figured out why countries which share the same first 3 letters can have such a variety of stats? There are quite a few instances of this.
RobPro

@WyvernSabres - It is the way I have added acceptions. United Kingdom, United States of America and United Arab Emirates - I also accept, UK, USA and UAE. The order in the stats are: USA, UK and UAE so more people type UK than UAE and USA than UK. Another example is the 'Saint' countries. I also accept the first three letters of each name in the country. Eg. St Lucia. I accept: 'stl', 'sai' and 'luc'. So it depends which method of getting the answer they do. With North Korea and Norway. I also accepted 'kor' for North Korea, so the 0.3% difference typed 'kor' instead of 'nor'. Dont know where the 0.1% difference with China and Chile came from though ahah

I had guessed what you did with the UNI and SAI countries. Glad even you can't figure out what's happening with some of the others!

With China and Chile, the only way it could work is if people type so quick they can get the fourth letter in without it registering the 'Chi', and then forget to do the other country

Sooo much more challenging than it seems. Racing against the clock is half the fun for this game so I think the time is perfect.
Now I'm kinda hoping you'll make a sequel where you have to type in the LAST 3 letters of each country.

@Sheldon - Haha, I was actually thinking about the last 3 letters! But that would be so hard! Would probably need double the time! Look out for it though ;)

I've always wondered about the Ivory Coast/ Cote d'Ivoire distinction. I'm sure its been discussed many times before but could anyone enlighten me - why is Cote d'Ivoire usually listed on Sporcle (and I'm sure numerous other places) as the 'English form' of the name? I'm certain Ivory Coast is still used by many English-speaking news organisations - are they incorrect? I just wondered why we distinguish it from Deutschland etc. Many thanks.

This is WAY too short. I felt like I was tearing through and I only got about 110. Other than that. Kind of a cool quiz.

@davie91 (archived comment): as far as I know, the constitution of Côte d'Ivoire specifies that the name of the country is Côte d'Ivoire and that it can't be translated into other languages. Of course there is no way to enforce that article, so in Spanish everybody says Costa de Marfil, in Italian Costa d'Avorio, in German Elfenbeinküste, etc., without any risk of being punished for doing so.

How is it that Chile and China don't have the same % guessed right?

Norway and North Korea don't have the same %, either. In fact, right now, it's an even wider gap between the two than between Chile and China.

nice quiz. I got countries I ordinarily can't because I can't spell them! Agree that a couple extra minutes would improve it a lot.

There are several countries that have the same first three letters but very different percentages (e.g. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Kitts and Nevis). How does that happen??

I may be overthinking this, but what's the point? It's essentially a name all the countries in the world without speling issues, right? Come to think of it, that's not a bad hook.... bit dull, though, but it means I wasted all that time memorizing krygzyz-- I mean kigrgzst-- ah, kurgyzyrgsta--.... Okay, forget it.

@Helixer and @MasterPenguin: probably has to do with alternates that the quiz accepts, for example both STV and SAI for Saint Vincent. China, dunno, maybe People's Republic

I like the time; this doesn't have the feel of a game you should beat. It's like Tetris: get a little better each time.
