| Sorry, I am not sold on it being a World War because a European war had minor skirmishes in some other part of the globe. Bailey's criteria seems to be that it had to engulf Europe and involve one or two other parties in small skirmishes elsewhere, normally thougn not exclusively in North America. If it weren't for the masses of colonial troops used in World War I, even that would be a debatable case. World War II there is no doubt. Major battles involving many thousands took place in Europe, Africa, East Asia, and the Pacific. Countries from North America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Oceania had major troop involvement. |
