Wow. Nine years seems like a long time when you look at some of these players. Thanks for the quiz, enjoyed it.

Fantastic quiz - although spent the last 2 minutes failing to spell ehiough (thats still wrong isnt it?) Not sure about just the surnames being acceptable - seth johnson is one of the most guessed answers purely by association when he's just about the most obscure player ever to play for england.

Cracking quiz. I'd stick with surnames only, though I would have never got Seth had it not been for Glen Johnson.

Surnames only seems to be a Sporcle standard - so I'm sticking with it.

This should be on the main site, definitely. Really challenging. Looking at some of the clodhoppers that have played for England in the past 10 years doesn't make me so embarrassed about the Welsh team now! :D

Didn't Jimmy Bullard play a game for England or did I imagine this?

Gavin McCann has to be the pick of the bunch. Unreal how you can get to England squad with that little talent. Excellent quiz, enjoyed this one very much.

I don't know, Anthony Gardner got in pretty much by virtue of having longer legs than anyone else! (Crouchy's keeping him out now, of course!) Great quiz, I only forgot the current captain - **** that he is though. Problem of course will be keeping it up to date every time Fabio gives someone else a debut...

I'll be undating this, if there are new caps. I can't see anyone likely at the moment. Capello seems to know who he likes. I'll also soon be doing a prequel soon - England players of the 90s (with positional clues)

PS This quiz got a lot of hits when it got in the top ten rated sports quizzes. But then it got overwhelmed by the Americans with their 'MLB first basemen by foot size' type quizzes. If you want to see this on the front page - vote five now.

Remember, the 2nd half of the friendly against Australia in 2003 was played by an Under 21 side, hence clowns like Francis Jeffers getting a cap. (Come on, how do we manage to beat England 3-1, but in the same game, let Francis Jeffers score a goal?!)

@RichN95. I know where you're coming from. Wish we could have a football section only; anyone want a few more football quizzes see my games.

I think when Sven was manager his plan was to cap as many people as possible - Chris Powell, Gavin McCann - why bother..... - my guess for the next new cap is Kieran Gibbs

Surprised so many people remember Michael Ricketts, he got sacked from my Southend a few seasons back for being too fat...

Leighton Baines?

@Mirror boy. I made this quiz long before Baines played for England and then changed it 2000-9 so I didn't have to update it. Baines first played in 2010.
