| jaredr5, look at my post at 9:45, those are the stats im using. I know it might come as a surprise to you, but Jeter actually has played in more than one world series, so being 1-25 in October of 2001 WS doesn't prevent him from having an overall .311 Batting Average. He went 3-12 in November that series, 1-25 in October. However, he's played in quite a few more World Series which is why his World Series average is .311 rather than .148 (which is what it was for that world series).
And as for pointing to Jeter's 4 World Series rings to say he's clutch.... is Frankie Crosetti clutch? He has 8 world series rings and somehow the hall of fame snubbed him. Hank Bauer, Johnny Murphy, and Tommy Henrich all have 7, and yet their forgotten players snubbed by the Hall as well. David Cone is far more clutch than Jeter, he already has 5 rings. Paul O'Neill too. So do Luis Sojo and Ramiro Mendoza. Chuck Knoblauch, Tino Martinez, Jeff Nelson, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, El Duque, Pettitte, Posada, Strawberry, Stanton... all pretty clutch too with 4 rings as well. Come to think of it... wasn't Jeter on the team with all these clutch players? Interesting how that works... you can win 4 world series without being this amazing player (unless everyone I just listed is an incredible, clutch player) |
