I might recommend The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, a reimagining of The Jungle Book.

Ooh, I didn't know it was based on that! Added!

I considered it, but it's not a reworking in the same way that these are. (which, for the most part, tell the same story either from a different point of view or in a different setting). P&P&Z is basically the original text with some scenes and lines added in.

Interesting. You could add On Beauty by Zadie Smith, which is a reworking of Howard's End by E M Forster.

could you include "the year of the death of ricardo reis"? it's jose saramago's reimagining of fernando pessoa's heteronym ricardo reis in his poetry.

The Tom Stoppard play isn't really a reworking of Hamlet. It's more of a commentary about the existence of the minor characters in the play.

What about Edward Sawtelle? Isn't it based off Hamlet?

Did not know that, and have added.

Do you know how happy I'd be if you added Stinky Cheese Man? It might not be literature, but . . .

Great quiz. I have a few more that popped to mind (widely varying in taste level!): Bridget Jones' Diary is based on Pride and Prejudice; Mister Pip is based on Great Expectations; and The Brothers K is (perhaps too obviously) based on the Brothers Karamazov.

How could I forget Bridget Jones?! Added! (I'm trying to limit it to either well-known authors or well-known books, so I may pass on the other two, but Bridget Jones!)

Interesting concept. You could probably afford to be kind and accept the Pride and Prejudice answer without the 's' after the apostrophe.

I can't edit it now, but hopefully the Sporcle editors will get on that.

Also, it wouldn't accept 'Bridget Jones' diary' which is grammatically correct - there's only one s.

Sorry, the singular always takes 's regardless of final letter (see: Fowler's Modern English Usage, every other modern style guide). In any case, if you'll look up the book itself, it's spelt with apostrophe s, so that would be the correct answer whatever the grammaticality.

I guess "The Jungle Book 2: Baloo's Boogaloo" wasn't what you'd call "an educated guess"

I was thrown off by "Reimagined Literature" being in capital letters in the quiz title, I thought that meant it was a franchise of some sort that redid books. Of course, I should have looked closer but an explanation couldn't hurt for this quiz.

I hung my head in shame and gave up after five failed attempts to spell Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Definitely need more of a description of what to do on this one. It is NOT self-explanatory. Perhaps at least one sample so people get the idea?

Wow! Hamlet keeps getting redone!I just finished writing a research paper on Hamlet and even before Hamlet there was, what the literary historians called, the Ur-Hamlet. What is up with that?

Awesome quiz! I love how all these authors have gotten away with publishing what is basically fanfiction :) I had a heck of a time trying to remember/spell Rosencrantz and Guildenstern though...
