Nice original twist.

Wait, the amazing race has been to Kyrgyzstan? Also kind of figures that most of these countries aren't on the best terms with the U.S. or are at least too dangerous to send a bunch of 'extreme tourists' to.
Nov 26th, 2012 at 23:52 GMT
You mean Kazakhstan? Theyve been there. I dont think theyve ever been to Kyrgyzstan though.
Nov 27th, 2012 at 14:37 GMT
Shouldn't there be like, 80 more countries on this list?
Nov 28th, 2012 at 04:09 GMT
Nice! This is the first season of AR that I'm not keeping up with very well...will have to catch up over winter break. =/

I just had an Amazing Race against the clock playing this game.

Iraq is listed twice!!!
Jan 26th, 2013 at 15:04 GMT
I like it that you can score double for Iraq. ;-)
Jan 26th, 2013 at 15:07 GMT
I like that one Iraq is guessed 89.5% of the time and the other just 48% of the time.
Jan 26th, 2013 at 15:08 GMT
One of the Iraq's should definitely be switched to Kyrgyzstan...I mean it wouldn't be a Sporcle quiz without it...plus people would try to outsmart themselves trying to think if maybe they actually had been there...
Jan 26th, 2013 at 15:29 GMT
Is one of the Iraq's supposed to be Iran?

19% of people don't realize Americans can't travel to Cuba...?
Jan 26th, 2013 at 15:40 GMT
!!! Sporcle changed the Iran to another Iraq! It wont let me fix it myself so I reported it. But Im excited this morning because I finally got a published game after 4 years.

What's the Amazing Race?
Jan 26th, 2013 at 15:56 GMT
I've never actually watched the Amazing Race, but figured it's probably not rocket science to figure this out.
Jan 26th, 2013 at 17:29 GMT
Since most of these countries are avoided due to political or safety reasons, I'm surprised that Fiji is on the list. I had a day-long layover there once on my way to Australia, and it's beautiful.
Jan 26th, 2013 at 17:31 GMT
Scratch that.. I never put Iran on the quiz but its fixed now.
Jan 26th, 2013 at 18:27 GMT
Interestingly, Amazing Race Australia visited Cuba in it's most recent season. It would be interesting to know how many of these have never been visited by international versions. (And for the true Amazing Race fans out there, if you can find AR Australia it has production values and locations that keep it on par with the US version, it's worth a watch, best version other than US I've found).

Fiji had a military coup a few years ago, and is still ruled by the coup leaders. There are worse places, certainly, but it's a lot less stable than many other pacific island nations.
Jan 26th, 2013 at 19:19 GMT
Oh man, it really would be an amazing race if you had to be the first to visit all these countries, even if there were no other rules.
Jan 26th, 2013 at 19:45 GMT
@Big_E: It's not legal, but it's really easy to go to Cuba. Just go from another country besides the U.S.

So this means that the Amazing Race has been to Afghanistan? Libya? Burma? I would have loved to have seen the faces of the racers when they opened those envelopes.
Jan 26th, 2013 at 20:47 GMT
Yeah there was a coup in Fiji in '06. Survivor was filming there at the time. They almost got run out of there.

No Kyrgyzstan option = didn't play.
Jan 26th, 2013 at 23:48 GMT
I've never seen this show, but guessed pretty well just by thinking of which countries it would make sense to avoid.
Jan 27th, 2013 at 00:11 GMT
I haven't heard of the show but thought where would americans either not go or not be allowed to go, and I got 10 out of 19 that way.
Jan 27th, 2013 at 00:29 GMT
@Big E-Americans can go to Cuba, they just have to get there from a different country. I know someone (an American) who did a semester abroad in Cuba.
Jan 27th, 2013 at 01:54 GMT
whats wrong with moldova?
Jan 27th, 2013 at 02:38 GMT
Since I've only seen about six seasons of The Amazing Race, I tried to imagine Phil Keoghan's voice in my head, reading out the names. Didn't work so well, I only got 9.
Jan 28th, 2013 at 15:24 GMT
Since it wasn't listed, I had to look it up, and Kyrgyzstan has actually never been visited by the US version of the Amazing Race. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Race_(U.S._TV_series)
Jan 28th, 2013 at 21:09 GMT
Never seen the programme, not American and had only a vague idea what it was about and still got 16 out of 19. A bit of common sense about destinations best avoided for Westerners, especially Americans, and you'll get most of them. Have to admit I was moderately surprised by at least two of the three I got wrong though.
Jan 28th, 2013 at 23:58 GMT
@Golden: Since you asked so nicely... the only countries on this quiz that HAVE been visited by a non-US version of the Amazing Race are Vietnam, Oman, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Colombia, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Israel, South Korea, Venezuela, and Cuba.
Jan 29th, 2013 at 01:07 GMT
Further elaboration: In addition to visiting Cuba in season 2, Amazing Race Australia also visited Israel in season 1 - along with pre-UN-recognition-Palestine. Israel also appears in every season of the Israeli version (surprise, surprise), but only to host the starting line. The Latin American version (which only visits Latin American countries) is the only one to have been to Colombia (twice) and Venezuela, as well as Dominican Republic and Guatemala. (Curiously, none of its four seasons have been to Paraguay, which the US version has been to.) Bosnia and Herzegovina (from Israeli season 2) is the only other country that has been seen on an international version but not the US one. However, Indonesia and Czech Republic were first visited by the Amazing Race Asia - several years before they debuted on the US edition. In total, there are 8 countries that have appeared on a non-US version only, 43 countries that have only appeared on the US version, 39 countries that fall into both categories, and 107 countries that have never been visited at all.
