Come on! Both on this and on the fruit quiz I miss Nigeria. Why is my mind blocking it?? I mean I got Togo and Uganda and other smaller countries, but Nigeria? NO!

Great quiz, but too much time... you have enough time to just start naming countries. Also, ebsen, I missed Nigeria too. GOt all the rest of its neighbors, but I swore I already wrote it in, so I didn't do it again. Argh!

Is corn the same thing as maize? Because if it isn't I think you should put corn. @baronac China pretty much makes everything nowadays

@transitfan - even though ireland grows a lot of potatoes, the top 5 countries are all within the top 15 biggest countries in area. so ireland's never going to compete with the land that they can devote to spud cultivation

@Hamburger, no sweet potatoes and yams are NOT the same. Sweet potatoes, have rounded ends, pale yellow (slight orangish hue) and are a bit sweeter than the regular starchy potato. Yams on the otherhand, are longer than potatoes with pointed ends and have a deep orange color. Yams are considerably much more sweeter than sweet potatoes. Yams are were brought to the US during the slave trade, and are commonly (wrongly) called sweet potatoes.

ok so @steesh, you are actually kind of right. Botanically it is a fruit because of its seeds inside, BUT in the united states it is taxed as a vegetable as a result of a supreme court case in 1893 which was Nix v. Hedden. The court found that it is a vegetable because the perception of the tomato was that it was a vegetable. No, I am not making this up. I hope you find it as hilarious as I do that they needed the supreme court to decide this haha.

@dantheman, if tomato is a fruit due to it having seeds inside seeds inside it, what does that mean for cucumber, zuchinni, capsicum, pumpkins, squash, beans, eggplants... ?

Only one little thing that I spotted. On sweet potatoes where China is first there is a number next to it saying 107 and the rest numbers of the numbers are decimals is it supposed to be like that or not because im not sure either?! Anyways great quiz keep up the good work I love your quizzes!!

@schulace: cucumbers and squash are botanically fruit too. @Dantheman02687: Love the story! It doesn't surprise me, given that Reagan tried to have ketchup reclassified as a vegetable (instead of a condiment) too! Apparently the bill never quite passed.

On a more serious note, it's interesting that Iran is all over the Fruits! leaderboard, but barely registers here. Statistical quirkiness or something I don't know about agriculture?

Pretty good quiz. @steesh Actually ALL vegetables are fruits! That's what science says - if it's got seeds, it's a fruit! Vegetable is a culinary term!
