No, it should not be. Pumpkinbomb states quite clearly that former countries are also listed.

great britain is not a country. its an island consisting of england wales and scotland. the UK (united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland) is a country. consisting of the countries on the island of great britain, and northern ireland, on the island of ireland.

I can't complain because it clearly explains that countries that do not exist anymore are included, however, it is frustrating that those are the only ones I didn't get. Woo Hoo 82/100. *Must start reading instructions*

Weird that Belgium is not there for cycling. I thought we were pretty good at that. Instead it seems we are good at... archery. :

There is a difference between not existing and simply a name changing. What a joke.

"US" gets you all of the answers for United States except Freestyle Wrestling. Other than that one, I got everything except Belgium. Good quiz.

Just out of interest, why does entering 'Germany' still bring up East Germany even though the same kind of thing doesn't work for 'Russia' and the Soviet Union, or 'Serbia' and Yugoslavia? Surely if you have to enter 'Soviet Union', you should also have to enter 'East Germany'? If not, we must be talking about pretty fine distinctions between the two cases here.

Artistic Gymnastics competitors deserve a lot of credit. It's not easy to paint whilst cartwheeling but they got it down.

Wonder why GDR never works for East Germany, even if it was the name of the country. And they always started with this name at the Olympics, looking to GBR... Very good quiz!

@ktappe: USSR was more than just Russia, and was its own entity. The USSR consisted primarily of Russia and its capital was Moscow, but the USSR wasn't just Russia changing its name for a few decades.
