Broader consensus puts "La Dolce Vita" and "8 1/2" above "La Strada" for Fellini; "L'Aventurra" and "Blow Up" for Antonioni; "Last Tango in Paris" and "The Last Emperor" for Bertolucci; "The Leopard" for Visconti. Also, "Life Is Beautiful" was incredibly popular at the time of its release, but a masterpiece? And even though he was born in Italy, Capra never made an Italian film--he seems really out of place on this list. |
