Texas Tech RED Raiders. Central Florida GOLDEN Knights. Presbyterian BLUE Hose. To name the three I noticed.
Nov 22nd, 2011 at 21:45 GMT
Texas Tech is on the quiz and each time I test it, Texas Tech works. Central Florida dropped the word "golden" from their nickname in 2007. Presbyterian is not scheduled to become a reclassified as a Division I school until 2014-2015.
Dec 9th, 2011 at 06:24 GMT
Huh, I don't know why Texas Tech didn't work for me then cause it does now. My apologies about UCF I knew that they dropped it I just forgot. And I had no idea Presbyterian wasn't D-I. I know their basketball team has played several DI schools recently (Florida being one) and I'm fairly certain the opened Clemson's football season this year. So I figured they must at least D-I. Again, my apologies. Good quiz.

too bad Hawaii dropped "rainbow" from their name...
Jan 8th, 2012 at 16:51 GMT
Great quiz - I got them all except "Yellow" and that deserves a facepalm.
Jan 8th, 2012 at 18:36 GMT
if I wasnt from evansville, I would have never gotten purple, haha
Jan 9th, 2012 at 00:58 GMT
Two teams with crimson? Man, I'm never going to get those. *Clicks give up* *bangs head on desk*

Presbyterian is in Division I now. They play in the Big South Conference http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/2506/presbyterian-blue-hose

Is Middle Tennessee State on here for blue? I tried entering it and didn't get anything. Wanted to know if I misspelled it or not.
Jan 10th, 2012 at 18:15 GMT
Actually, Presbyterian is a provisional D-1 member right now. They just can't compete in the tournament yet. It's an NCAA rule that was designed to prevent teams from moving up (or down) every other year to compete for championships. If you switch divisions, you can't compete for a title for a few years (I forget the number). However, teams who play against them get to count the win in their record as a D-1 opponent.

boston college golden eagles didnt work, am i wrong
Jan 13th, 2012 at 01:19 GMT
Yeah Middle Tennessee state doesn't work. They are the Blue Raiders.

Kent State GOLDEN Flashes

Isn't Furman the "Purple Paladins?"
Jan 15th, 2012 at 15:38 GMT
I'm pretty sure UCA is just the Bears now, though people do refer to them as Purple Bears, it's like you hear people call K-state the Purple Cats, but that's not their name. I don't know about Furman though.
Jan 18th, 2012 at 19:37 GMT
Furman is just the Paladins officially, although many call them the Purple Paladins.
Jan 21st, 2012 at 13:07 GMT
MTSU is a common abbreviation for Middle Tennessee State - please accept.
Feb 20th, 2012 at 02:34 GMT
Middle Tennessee State is one the quiz. Each time I test it the college works. Same thing with Kent State.
Feb 20th, 2012 at 02:44 GMT
Boston College is just the Eagles. They do not use the word golden in their official nickname. UCA is just the Bears, they do not use purple in their official nickname. Like ClintT13 said, Presbyterian is not a full D-I school yet so they were not included. Furman is just the Paladins. Middle Tennessee State is actually abbreviated to Middle Tennessee St on the quiz so they should work. MTSU has now been added for them as an acceptable answer as well.

Can you include "LIU Brooklyn" as an acceptable answer? That's what I attempted at first before realizing I should try Long Island. The school mainly went by LIU Brooklyn during the NCAA tourney, which is the only reason I knew these Blackbirds.
Apr 20th, 2013 at 20:24 GMT
Did Presbyterian get "full D-I" status yet? I thought they had, but I could be mistaken.
Apr 21st, 2013 at 00:13 GMT
Yes, Presbyterian did. And as an announcer, I can say it is very humorous saying "Now batting for the Presbyterian Blue Hose....."
Apr 21st, 2013 at 00:14 GMT
At Presbyterian College, they demonstrate that you can paint your ho any color you'd like. OK, I'm done.
Apr 21st, 2013 at 00:36 GMT
I think Furman is the Purple Paladins, and even though they're not DI, Mount Union in Ohio is the Purple Raiders.
Apr 21st, 2013 at 00:43 GMT
I can't believe I missed Army. I didn't even know they were the Black Knights (hangs head in shame)
Apr 21st, 2013 at 01:40 GMT
I tried typing CCSU and Central Connecticut State. Neither was accepted...
Apr 21st, 2013 at 02:39 GMT
@big_sexy: Try spelling it 'D-U-K-E'
Apr 21st, 2013 at 05:42 GMT
@gamer2000, I didn't know Army either, but then I'm a Mainer and I've got my Black Bears. :)

Could you please specify D1 basketball schools? Especially with the link to the NCAA helmet quiz, I was thinking this was D1 football schools and could not for the life of me come up with anyone with 'purple'. I think it would just be a bit more helpful. Thanks
Apr 21st, 2013 at 17:58 GMT
no bonus for "Navy" ??
Apr 21st, 2013 at 23:19 GMT
no bonus for "Brown"????????
Apr 22nd, 2013 at 00:11 GMT
Furman is just the Paladins. They've been in the Southern Conference since 1936, thus have never been anything but D1.
Apr 22nd, 2013 at 15:00 GMT
Yeah I think Furman may have been called "The purple" or something way back in 1910, when pretty much every school was just referred to as a colour, but any references to purple nowadays are just commentators being 'colourful'.
Apr 22nd, 2013 at 15:29 GMT
A quick check of the Furman website makes very clear that they are the Paladins. Purple is not part of their name.
Apr 22nd, 2013 at 19:44 GMT
Needs to be updated to include the Kent State Golden Flashes. Typed it multiple times, no credit given.
Apr 24th, 2013 at 00:47 GMT
Never heard them called the Purple Paladins
