#11 has come out of retirement. It's used by the ruling government's opposition and that opposition is recognized as the legitimate government of that conflicted nation by more than a dozen nations so far. In the UK and Australia and possibly the US, that is technically the official flag of that nation. Very cool quiz though.

and at the risk of being pedantic, number 8 was never the flag of serbia, it was the flag of yugoslavia during the cold war, the red star was removed after the collapse of communism while the country still had its old name of yugoslavia

I have to say that most of these countries have improved on their flag's design. And the Lesotho flag looks like it has Patrick from SpongeBob on it.

@tm83: Yugoslavia's flag had the stripes blue-white-red. It was, however, the flag of Serbia as a part of the communist Yugoslavia.

I have never seen #10 in my life, and I actually live in that country. Not sure if this ever was an official flag.

@Fojin: look at the years that that flag was in use and think about what was going on then. I'm not sure how prevalent it was but it was adopted for use at sea because ships need to display a national flag and they sure couldn't use the old one.

Why would any country go from a flag with elephants to one without? That's a huge fail. Great quiz, though!

The C-Pennant was never used as a national flag for Germany, but only as an ensign on German merchant shipping during the occupation--the "C" literally standing for "capitulation." So I don't think it's properly included as a "retired" world flag.

Number 8 is actually not the flag of Yugoslavia, as someone said above. I wouldn't call it the flag of Serbia either as it was the flag of SR Serbia which can't really be called an independent country. Good quiz though

This may seem a bit petty, but perhaps you could accept Siam for #5?

I'm disappointed by the Soviet Union and Zaire being excluded from this, but good quiz nonetheless.

@tm83: Actually Nr8 was of the Socialist Republic of Serbia which was part of Yugoslavia. The flag of the SR of Yugoslavia hat its white stripe in the middle, the Serbian at the bottom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Socialist_Federal_Republic_of_Yugoslavia#Republic_flags
